I have a low ceiling but would like a polished concrete topping. Is there a way to achieve that without chipping away at the minimal clearance that I have?
Cement technologies have advanced significantly in recent years, allowing for thinner and faster installations. Decorative terrazzo and polished concrete toppings, also known as polishable cement overlays, are now seamlessly installed in-situ at 10-12mm which keeps your ceiling height to a maximum.
We would like a polished concrete/terrazzo topping installed but don’t have 4-6 weeks allowance for flooring installation. What can we do?
Cement flooring systems of today use rapid setting technology, allowing us to commence grinding 24 hours after installation of the topping. Initial floor prep to final sealing of the finished floor takes only 5-7 days.
The duration of this type of installation should always be discussed early in the planning stages to minimise our time on site, thereby keeping the area accessible to others
We want to specify a terrazzo floor to match our joinery colours. How do we do this?
One of the biggest draws of our flooring systems is that they are fully customisable. You can select the cement colour along with aggregate combinations to match any aesthetic. With our extensive colour range of cement and aggregates, the possibilities are endless. Our colour selection page is a good starting point showcasing the availability
We would like to specify a cement/polished concrete floor for a national retail chain to create a uniform look with regard to the stores. Can this be done?
Yes, certainly. As we bring our own materials to the site and not rely on local suppliers, we are able to create uniformity in any location.
We would like to specify a polished concrete or terrazzo floor but don’t know how to go about it.
Specifying is really quite easy. Using our colour selector page as a starting point, there are only 3 choices to make: the cement colour, the aggregate colour and the level of finish (e.g. matte, satin or gloss). Commercially, you also need add the required slip rating e.g. P3.
We would like to specify a polished concrete floor but don’t know exactly what we want.
If you’re not sure of the look or the name of a finish you are after, a great resource is the HonestoneFloors Instagram page. There you’ll see close up shots as well as overall images of our completed projects. Take note of the code or take a screenshot of the image and get back to us, and we’ll help you specify the exact floor that you want.
We want polished concrete floors but with no aggregate.
Polished concrete floors can have zero aggregate, partial aggregate or exposed aggregate. The ability to produce a floor with no exposed aggregate will be subject to the condition of the existing floor; it must be very smooth, flat, clean and dense. Alternatively, if the existing floor is not a good candidate for a zero aggregate type of finish, a polishable overlay can achieve the desired look.
We want a polished concrete floor with some visible aggregate.
Expert concrete specialists can produce partial exposed aggregate floors with very little difficulty. And if an existing floor does not lend itself to the desired outcome, a polishable overlay can produce the desired look.
I would like a polished concrete floor, but I have a few adjoining slabs that I fear will make it impossible to create a uniform look.
There is no denying different concrete floors will produce differing outcomes, as will any infills. This can also highlight any patching within the floor.
While it is an industrial look desired by some, it’s not what a high-end office or retail fit out will necessarily go for. This is the perfect candidate for a polishable overlay, requiring just a thin topping to make the floor look uniform across an entire space.
Can we design a terrazzo floor with different sizes of the same colour stone or aggregates?
Yes. Creating the design on a terrazzo floor by simply changing the aggregate size is a subtle way to maintain the colour palette while providing a border or feature to the floor.
My concrete floor is horrible but I like polished concrete. What options do I have?
Your tired, worn concrete floor may hide an absolute gem underneath. One of the joys of grinding back old concrete is that sometimes we can unearth a spectacular looking floor.
An on-site sample is a cost-effective way to explore if grinding back your existing floor is going to give the outcome you desire. Alternatively, if your existing floor is not going to give the results you want, utilising a polishable overlay can help bring your vision to life.
I want a polished concrete floor. How much is it going to cost me?
Polished concrete has become a loosely used generic term for a wide variety of concrete floor finishes. In fact, it just means using a mechanical diamond polish (with diamond tooling) to produce a certain level of gloss.
To give you an accurate cost estimate, a concrete specialist needs to know the size of the job, the logistics, the current condition of the floor, the aggregate exposure level, the gloss level, the sealing system, etc.
I’m not sure of the look I’m after. Do you have a showroom?
Yes, we do have a showroom located just an hour north of Sydney on the Central Coast. We also regularly travel to Sydney to meet with architects and clients and provide them with samples of our work, which includes special microcement overlays, polished concrete floors, terrazzo, concrete veneer, resin flooring, and other related services.
